El creador de THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND tenía 69 años
Gregg Allman, cantante, teclista y compositor de THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, ha muerto a los 69 años de edad. El músico fue diagnosticado con hepatitis C en 1999 y recibió un transplante de hígado en 2010.
Este es el mensaje que ha sido publicado en su web oficial:
"Con gran tristeza anunciamos que Gregg Allman, miembro fundador de THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, ha fallecido en paz en su casa de Savannah, Georgia.
Gregg luchó contra muchos problemas de salud en los últimos años. En este tiempo, Gregg consideraba que estar en la carretera tocando música con sus hermanos y su banda en solitario para sus amados fans, era medicina esencial para su alma. Tocar música le levantaba y le hacía resistir durante los momentos más duros".
El manager y amigo de Gregg, Michael Lehman, ha publicado este comunicado:
"He perdido a un querido amigo y el mundo ha perdido a un brillante pionero de la música. Era una persona amable y gentil con la mejor risa que haya oído jamás. Su amor por su familia y compañeros de banda era apasionado así como el amor que sentía por sus extraordinarios seguidores. Gregg era un compañero increíble y mejor amigo. Todos le echaremos de menos."
A Gregg le sobreviven su esposa, Shannon Allman, sus hijos, Devon, Elijah Blue, Delilah Island Kurtom y Layla Brooklyn Allman; tres nietos, su sobrina Galadrielle Allman y una numerosa familia.
Gregg Allman, pionero del Rock Sureño
Gregg Allman fundó THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND en 1969 en Jacksonville (Florida, Estados Unidos) junto a Duane Allman (guitarra), Butch Trucks (batería), Berry Oakley (bajo), Jai Johanny «Jaimoe» Johanson (batería) y Dickey Betts (guitarra y voz).
La banda es conocida por ser una de las creadoras del Rock Sureño, aunque el grupo rechazaba el apelativo y prefería ser considerada una banda de Rock Progresivo. Su música incluía elementos propios del Country, Blues y Jazz.
